EdenAcres is a community-based non-profit that connects learners to the outdoors through environmental education.

Role in the Community
The organization works with teachers and learners to develop outdoor learning experiences that support academic and program goals within the framwork provided by the Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan. To develop capacity in the community for environmental education, EdenAcres employs the following strategies:

-
Integrates outdoor learning activities with academic content in K-12, non-formal, and adult education
-
Develops infrastructure & protocols to support learning at outdoor sites
-
Develops funding to cover program costs and transportation
-
Builds connections and partnerships to develop a broad base of support for outdoor education across the community

My role
When the B Street Farm realigned its direction towards the college audience and production organic farming, community members working with youth and sustainability education came together to form an organization that more directly addressed their needs and interests. This group became EdenAcres Environmental Education. As board chair, my role has been to facilitate the development of organizational structure, mentor our director (a former student), identify and maintain productive partnerships across the community, and develop written, verbal, and visual representations of the mission and vision.
